| Introducing My Favorite Band: The Red Hot Chili Peppers |
|
|
The Rolling Stone Magazine has recognized the Red Hot Chili Peppers as one of the greatest rock bands of all time. This rock band has won multiple platinum awards and sold over 60 million albums. This band started in the early 1980's, but millions of rock and roll fans are still waiting for the next hit from this consistently productive but seemingly ever-changing quartet. And the Red Hot Chili Peppers merchandise is selling out.
The band has had twelve different band members since 1983. Only Anthony Kiedes, the lead singer, and Flea, the bassist, still remain of the original members. The band used to be called the Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem before they adopted their current name. Who can forget Red Hot Chili Peppers Hey Oh.
The band was intended to be a temporary high school performance rock band, but they went professional when Flea joined up. The band’s first album was not a commercial success, but it did announce the beginning of a new punk rock band that was destined for greatness.
The many members that came and went influenced the music of the talented quartet.
The band was markedly influenced by the talent of the lead guitarist, Jack Sherman, who is credited for the initial success of the band in the early days. However, Sherman quit the band because of internal discord. The band was able to rejuvenate itself and avoid sinking into oblivion by replacing Sherman with Hillel Slovek
Slovek proved to be as talented a guitarist as Sherman. The band's first three platinum albums amply demonstrated his contribution. Tragically, Slovek died of a drug overdose. He was replaced by John Frusciante. The band's fourth platinum album demonstrated Frusciante's artistry. This fourth platinum album sold over two million copies and earned the Red Hot Chili Peppers a double platinum award.
Suddenly hits like Red Hot Chili Peppers Give it Away Now and Can't Stop Red Hot Chili Peppers rocketed to the top of the charts. Bona fide hits. Concerts were sold out throughout the country.
The band member’s use and addiction to drugs was the major cause of the band’s ever changing face. In fact, Kiedes temporarily left the band due to his and other members’ heroin addiction; while Jack Irons quit because of Slovak's death and went on to join other bands.
Nevertheless, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have been characterized by an abundance of talent. For instance, Flea was a revolutionary bassist. Led Zeppelin and Bootsy Collins influenced his style which embodies the idea of punk freedom. |
